My projects on GitHub are more like a tutorial than a finished product: bestia-dev tutorials.

Situation 2026-08

The storage on the notebook is too small to contain everything. It will contain only "working files and folders".
Therefore one of the external HDD will be the "original" where all the original files must be stored.
The second ext HDD is an exact backup copy of the "original" HDD to avoid the loss of files.

Windows 10 is old and dangerous

Win10 is not supported anymore. There is a great risk of malware.
But the notebook is old and not eligible for Win11.
I would recommend the installation of a Linux OS. It is a big jump from Win to Linux, but it costs less than a new notebook.
Always is the problem with the drivers. The notebook is a Lenovo and maybe it has good Linux drivers.

Windows 10 system disk backup

Win10 can make the system disk backup. It takes around 8 hours with this old hardware.

Manual copy of important folders

From the working folders on the notebook in C:\Users\tamara copy the folders to the "original" ext.HDD:
Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Videos, Music, Photos,...
These files are not enormous and I can make a new folder every time.

Phone

What model, how much storage???

Uploading to google drive is easy, but 15GB is a very small storage. It is ok just to have files temporarily stored in between transfers to computer.
Transfer to computer with a usb cable. Then move the files on the phone in another folder to know what is already transferred. The phone gallery will work with all the folders simultaneously.
When the files are transferred to the computer and backup, they can be deleted from Google Drive to make space for new videos and photos.
